Amelia Peabody

I was excited to do C. I had a few books in mind, but one stood out above the others.

Crocodile on the Sandbank. Written by Elizabeth Peters, published 1975. The first book in the Amelia Peabody series.

I first learned of Amelia while reading reviews on The Mummy. Many people were writing, saying that they believed the movie was based after these books. This led me into looking them up. I have only read the first and part of a later one, I plan to finish the other one soon, but I really enjoyed the first one.

Amelia Peabody is a rich English woman who is board with England and all her suitors. She leaves England to go traveling and meets a young woman named Evelyn Forbes. Together the two women travel to Egypt where they meet Archaeologist brothers Radcliffe and Walter Emerson. Radcliffe and Amelia become enemies on their first meeting, but Evelyn and Walter's feeling for each other are completely opposite.

Joining the brothers at their dig, Amelia and Evelyn begin to realize the danger they are facing when a mummy begins to haunt the party. It is up to Amelia and Radcliffe to get to the bottom of it, but they can only do so by working together. And they would rather kiss a scorpion than do that.

Not only is this book an exciting adventure, it had a lot of Archaeological facts in it, and some interesting information on some of the first Archaeologists who worked in Egypt. The mummy was just the right amount of scary and the romance wasn't over done. Everything about it made for a really enjoyable book.
